Word/Atlantic
With eight prior albums, Rise is
quickly becoming my favorite Skillet album yet. Now, for many this
album came with some changes that many fans were not open to. Being a
“concept” album, something different is to be expected. With that
being said, to me this album doesn't sound like a “concept” but
more of a well planned out arsenal of killer songs. Some stand out
tracks, including “Good To Be Alive” “American Noise” and
“Battle Cry” may not be what Panheads (Skillet's devout fans)
have come to expect over the years. Let me stress that they aren't
overly major changes, but rather growing talent. In the case of Rise,
it works and it works really well. Thus why this band has seen such a
huge success.
And
in a world with secular pop flooding the Billboard charts, these
Christian hard rockers had found themselves debuting on the charts at
number 4 with Rise.
It is definitely clear that Skillet has managed to reach the masses
with their unique sound. And while we are now over halfway through
2013, I can definitely say that Rise
is a album of the year contender for me.
5/5
